QALA-I-NAW (PAN): A hundred Taliban fighters, who recently joined the peace process in the Daraye Bom district of northeastern Badghis province, have been recruited into a local police force, an official said on Wednesday.
Based on the provincial quota, the men joined the local force to help the Afghan National Police (ANP) and Afghan National Army (ANA) maintain security, Deputy Governor Abdul Ghani Sabari told Pajhwok Afghan News.
With each receiving 9,250 afs ($200), including 3,250afs as food allowance, in monthly pay, they formally joined the local force at a ceremony in the remote district. Introduced to the government by tribal elders and influential figures, they will operate under the district police chief.
Local policemen, currently having a light green uniform, would be given another fatigue, Col. Abdul Jabbar Saleh, the provincial police chief, said.
The fighters loyal to Mullah Zarghoon joined the government six months ago. "I am very happy about joining the local force," said Mullah Ahmad Shah, one of the surrendering men.
According to the Ministry of Interior, 300 people will be recruited into the local police force in each district.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tapyACv3 ... r_embeddedKABUL, Afghanistan (August 19, 2011) - The International Security Assistance Force joins President Karzai in condemning the IED attacks today at the British Council compound in Kabul. Initial reports indicate a combination of multiple vehicle-borne and personal-borne IEDs were detonated.
"This despicable act of murder and destruction today, on this day of Afghan Independence, is yet another indication the insurgents have nothing but contempt for the Afghan people," said General John R. Allen, commander of ISAF. "We will continue to support our Afghan counterparts to destroy the networks behind this attack, and hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions."
