Desconozco sobre el tema, y quizás esté diciendo una burrada, pero la velocidad que alcanza el misil, 800m/s, y la altura del avión, unos 1000 m, y la distancia máxima a recorrer que son unos 3.5 km, más le vale a la tripulación del P3 que los alertadores canten rápido para iniciar maniobras evasivas y lanzar contramedidas, porque si esperan que la fragata lo detecte para luego reaccionar, lo llevan mal.

Hablando de TTP insurgentes en Afganistán. Modalidad manifestación violenta entre la que se infiltran pistoleros para abrir fuego contra las bases y provocar la respuesta de los centinelas.

KABUL: NATO-led forces shot an armed protester on Thursday when he tried to enter a foreign military base in southern Afghanistan on Thursday, the alliance said.

The man was among some 100 Afghan civilians demonstrating outside Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mirwais in Chora district of southern Uruzgan province, over an alleged Koran burning incident at the base, a spokesman for the NATO-led force said.

The incident is the latest in a string of protests in Afghanistan that have turned violent in the last week and comes only two days before a parliamentary election. The Taliban have threatened to disrupt the poll.

The top U.N. envoy in Afghanistan, Staffan de Mistura, has warned that militants could attempt to exploit anti-Western sentiments in the run-up to the poll.

Around 100 Afghan civilians started throwing rocks at foreign forces guarding FOB Mirwais on Thursday, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said in a statement.

One protester, armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, was shot by an ISAF service member when he tried to access the base through a side gate, ISAF said.

James Judge, a civilian spokesman for ISAF in Kabul, said the man was dragged off by the crowd and it was not immediately clear if he was dead. The protesters had thereafter dispersed.

Judge said there had been no burning of a Koran inside the base, but rather troops had been doing a routine burning of sensitive ISAF documents.

The latest protest follows several demonstrations around the country over the weekend and one on Wednesday over plans by a U.S. pastor to burn copies of the Koran to mark the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. The pastor later scrapped the idea.

At least four people have been killed and several more wounded in the protests over the last week.

Similar protests over perceived desecration of Muslim symbols have led to dozens of deaths in Afghanistan in recent years, including after a Danish newspaper published a cartoon depicting the Prophet Mohammad in 2005.

El objetivo parece que es provocar a los militares a un enfrentamiento armado contra la población civil.

La deslegitimación del soldado extranjero es una de las técnicas más viejas para arruinar las campañas para atraerse a la población civil. Respecto a lo del vídeo de antena 3, me pregunto qué clases de presiones o a qué negociación habrá sometido el gobierno a la cadena. Es indignante.

Interesante TTP a incluir en Herat, ya habíamos comentado, si no me equivoco, la posibilidad de un ataque coordinado sobre alguna base utilizando terroristas suicidas:

-Primer ataque contra la seguridad de la base, RPG
-Coche bomba contra la instalación para permitir la entrada de los suicidas
-Ataque coordinado de suicidas.

Este les salió mal.

Suicide assault team storms UN compound in western Afghanistan

A Taliban suicide assault team attacked the United Nations compound in the western Afghan city of Herat today. Several members of the four-man suicide team were able to enter the compound before being gunned down by security guards and Afghan police.

The attack took place at the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) compound in Herat. The four members of the suicide assault team, all of whom were armed with suicide vests and assault rifles, pulled up to the outer gate of the compound and attempted to break through by firing a rocket-propelled grenade. When the attack failed, the driver of the car pulled up to the gate and detonated his car bomb, breaching the wall and allowing the other three fighters to enter.

Afghan security guards and policemen opened fire on the remaining members and killed them after a gunfight that lasted for nearly 30 minutes. During the fighting, one security guard and a policeman were wounded. No members of the UNAMA staff were reported killed or wounded.

No group has taken credit for the attack, and the Taliban have not released a statement about the attack on their website, Voice of Jihad.

But the attack was likely executed by Taliban fighters under the command of Samihullah, who leads a group of fighters known as the Mujahideen of Herat. Samihullah is closely allied with al Qaeda and works with the Ansar Corps, the Iranian Qods Force sub-command that directs Iranian operations in Afghanistan. Samihullah is known to facilitate the movement of al Qaeda fighters from Iran into Afghanistan.

Today's suicide assault in Herat is the latest in a string of such attacks by the Taliban and al Qaeda and its affiliates. Suicide assaults by heavily armed teams of fighters wearing vests have been carried out in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Chechnya, Somalia, and India. The November 2008 terror assault in Mumbai, India, resulted in the deaths of more than 170 people, and the attack shut down India's financial capital for more than 60 hours.

Lo curioso es que fue la seguridad privada de la ONU la que les salvó la vida a los miembros de UNAMA en Herat, y digo curioso porque justamente el UN Working Group on the Use of Mercenaries va por ahí clamando contra las PMCs. Eso sí... con sus miembros bien protegiditos por funcionarios ONU y los campamentos donde trabajan funcionarios con sueldos de 200.000$/año todos con seguridad privada. Faltaría más.

Ojo, que el ataque puede haber tenido influencia del IMU o bien haber sido un primer ataque de los uzbekos en zona del RC(West). En otro Stán la jugada les salió con 28 militares asesinados, mañana podría ser una de nuestras FOBs aisladas o alguna instalación de AECID que tenga poca seguridad, o peor aún, que el ANP deje hacer o participe directamente.

¿Lo dices por el ataque aprecido que sufrió en KUNDUZ la USAID?

Por cierto, apuntar en TTP's: los atacantes, además de llevar cada uno un AK47 y chalecos explosivos, iban vestidos de mujer con burka:

Exacto, creo que ya salió en algún lado que en Kabul y el área del RC-Capital estos ataques han tenido lugar decenas de veces. Un objetivo como una instalación de AECID (sin seguridad privada como DAI-USAID) o alguna instalación que vayan los mandos españoles a inaugurar, sería mucho más factible para los talibanes/AQ/IMU. Les daría un impacto mediático enorme, además de crear numerosas bajas con relativamente pocos recursos.

Espero que esta contingencia se haya tenido en cuenta y planificado convenientemente, que no se puede decir que es algo nuevo.

Misma TTP que la utilizada contra el asesinato a los Guardias Civiles :

-Un afgano con vestimenta de la Policía de Fronteras ha sacado su armamento y ha matado a 6 miembros de la ISAF en el este de Afganistán.

-Se desconoce si es un infiltrado, un policía descontento o un talibán que se coló en el recinto aprovechando su vestimenta.

Dos días antes hubo algo parecido en Paktika, donde dos suicidas vestidos como oficiales de policía afganos perpetraron un ataque en el Cuartel de la Policía y el Centro de Formación. Mataron a 12 policías afganos.
